POTATO CURRY

      Rasam with Potato curry will make a complete meal on lazy days. (I had with Okra More Kulambu). This is a simple & basic recipe. It comes in handy for Bachelors Cooking. This was the only dish which I know to prepare before marriage. I learnt to prepare Potato fry from my mom because when my parents are out of station,I will do this Potato curry with curd rice for me & my Brother. Ok no more stories. Going on to this recipe

INGREDIENTS

POTATO

SAMBHAR POWDER
1.5 Tsp
TURMERIC POWDER
A Pinch
MUSTARD SEEDS,URAD DHAL
1 Tsp
GINGER GARLIC PASTE
1 Tsp
SALT
To Taste
OIL
1 Tbsp

Pressure cook the Potato. Peel the skin & cut into small pieces. Slice the Onions,Ginger,Garlic into fine pieces. (You can use Ginger Garlic paste)

Heat oil in a Kadai & add Mustard seeds,Urad dhal,Ginger,Garlic.

Fry the onions until it turns transparent.

Now add the Potatoes.

Add Sambar powder,Turmeric powder,Salt.

Sprinkle little water & mix well.

Cook until the masala blends well with Potato.

LEMON AVAL/POHA

       A simple & healthy break fast in the morning with Poha. You no need any side dish for this Poha. The lemony flavour will make us to feel as if we are eating lemon rice.It can be prepared in 15 mins.

INGREDIENTS

THICK AVAL / POHA
1 Cup
CHANNA DHAL
1 Tsp
PEANUTS
¼ Cup
GRATED  CARROT
¼ Cup
MUSTARD SEEDS
½ Tsp
URAD DHAL
½ Tsp
RED / GREEN CHILLY
2 - 3
LIME JUICE
4 – 5 Tbsp
ASAFOETIDA
A Pinch
TURMERIC POWDER
½ Tsp
SALT
To Taste
OIL
2 Tsp

Wash ,soak the poha in water. Drain the water.

Soak channa dhal in water. (This step is optional). But this helps in even roasting .

In a bowl add washed Poha,Lemon juice,Turmeric powder,Salt.

Keep it closed for 5 - 10 mins.

After 5 - 10 mins  all the water would have been absorbed by the poha.

In a kadai heat oil add Mustard seeds,Urad dhal,Channa dhal,Dry Red/green chilly.

Add the peanuts.

Now add the grated carrot.

Add the Soaked Poha. Mix it well. Be careful without mashing it up.

Granish with corainder leaves.

Top up with sesame oil (It is optional).

Lemon juice can also be added at the last (i.e after the poha is cooked).

GREEN PEAS MASALA

     I have used dried peas for this Masala,because when compared to frozen/fresh peas, Dried ones works good for this dish. It goes well with hot rice,Chappati.

INGREDIENTS

DRIED GREEN PEAS
1 Cup
ONION

TOMATO

RED CHILLY POWDER
1 Tsp
CORAINDER POWDER
½ Tsp
TURMERIC POWDER
A Pinch
GINGER GARLIC PASTE
1 Tsp
JEERA
½ Tsp
SALT
To Taste
OIL
2 Tsp

Grind half Onion,Tomatoes to a smooth paste.

Pressure cook the peas by adding little salt. Drain the water & keep aside.

In a kadai heat oil & add Cumin seeds,Onions.Fry till it turns pink. Now add the grounded mixture.

Add Red chilly powder,Corainder powder,Turmeric powder,Ginger garlic paste,Salt.

Sprinkle little water.Then add the peas.

Mix well until the masala blends well with the peas.

Keep in medium flame untill oil separates out.
