THATTA PAYIR KULAMBU

   In chettinad Thatta payir (Cow Peas) will  surely be in their store room. In olden days they used to preserve sun dried Vathal,Vadagams when it is cheap. Some may prepare this Thatta payir Kulambu with Keerai thandu or Mavathal (Sun dried Mango).
This Kulambu will be very tasty. Coming to the recipe

INGREDIENTS
THATTA PAYIR
½ Cup
ONION

GARLIC
1
TURMERIC POWDER
¼ Tsp
SAMBAR POWDER
1 Tbsp
TAMARIND
A Small Gooseberry size
MUSTARD SEEDS
½ Tsp
URAD DHAL
½ Tsp
OIL
2 Tsp

To Grind
COCONUT
2 Tbsp
ONION
1
TOMATO
½
FENNEL SEEDS
½  Tsp
PRESSURE  COOKED THATTA PAYIR
1 Tbsp

STEP BY STEP PICTURES

In a Kadai dry roast Thatta Payir until brown spots appear.

Pressure cook with water,Salt for 5 to 6 whistles.

Drain water & keep aside.

Grind the items given under the " To Grind " table.

In a kadai heat oil ,add  Mustard seeds,Urad dhal. Add Onion,Garlic. Fry till it turns pink.

Now add the cooked Thatta Payir.

Pour the grounded Masala.

Add the required amount of water.

Now add Sambar Powder,Turmeric Powder.

Mix well . Add salt.

Extract tamarind juice & add it.

Allow it to boil until oil separates out.
