Tomato Chutney goes well with idly, dosai, upma, adai. It can be prepared easily. Every one has different version of preparing it. If you like the raw smell of onion,tomato you can grind all the ingredients as such and just temper it. I don't like raw smell so i will saute the ingredients.

STEP BY STEP PICTURES
Heat oil in a kadai.Add Red chilly,Channa Dhal & roast till it becomes golden brown.Keep aside.Then in the same kadai add onion,tomato,salt.Fry till it becomes soft.
Allow it to cool.Then transfer it to a mixie jar add coconut and grind to a smooth paste.
Transfer it to a serving bowl.
Temper with mustard seeds,Urad dhal.asafoetida.Ready to Serve
Notes
- Curry leaves can be used while tempering.
- Tamarind can be used along with tomato.
